“I haven’t received my University Degree, but I’ve received an ICC approval letter to make Staunch cricket bats ready to be used in International Cricket Matches.
I’m absolutely humbled that I am the CEO/Founder of the first cricket bat company in Sri Lanka to achieve this milestone. I won’t let Sri Lanka down ”
24 year old Sahan Dikmadugodage, came down to Sri Lanka few years ago leaving his Australian job and University education to start his dream of becoming Sri Lanka’s first professional bat manufacturer.
“Exactly 2 years and 10 months ago, I started this dream of mine. Now Staunch cricket bats are being used for an International World Cup game for the Sri Lankan women’s team” Sahan posted in Facebook as Sri Lanka Women’s team took on India in a T20 World Cup game yesterday.
Sahan Dikmadugodage recenty met Minister of Industries Wimal Weerawansa to pointout one of the main concerns local manufacturers of bats face, as they have to pay up to 20% tax when importing raw materials to make bats while the importers of foreign bats have to pay a mere tax of 2%.
Minister Wimal Weerawansa has advised the Ministerial officials to find out whether any tax relief could be given for such businesses with regard to imported raw materials.
