Irregularities in Staff loans & new hiring at CEB: Minister calls for report

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara has written to the Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) inquiring on several irregularities at CEB in terms of staff loans and employment based on father-son relationship.

In a letter, the minister has stated that he has observed a discrepancy in the interest rates of loans provided by the CEB to its employees and the loans taken by the institution from banks for this purpose.

The minister has further said that he has got information of conducting interviews for hiring employees based on father-son relationship in the CEB at a time when recruitment is on hold.

Accordingly, the minister has called for a report on the loans issued from beginning of the staff loan scheme and also the list of employees hired based on the father-son relationship.

The minister has further requested the chairman of CEB not to hire any new employees without the prior approval from the ministry, until the restructuring of the CEB is complete. (NewsWire)
