Two dead in separate accidents on pedestrian crossings


A pedestrian was reported dead after being hit by a car in Kalutara South last night (18) while crossing on the pedestrian crossing.

The accident has taken place opposite the Bank of Ceylon on the Galle Road, when the car plying from Galle direction towards Colombo hit the pedestrian.

The 56-year-old victim, a resident of Ragama has succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Nagoda hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the car has been arrested while the Kalutara south police are conducting further investigations.

Meanwhile, another death was reported due to an accident which took place in Dehiwala, Kalubowila area on Saturday morning.

Police say that a three wheeler had knocked on an elderly man who was crossing the road on the pedestrian crossing located in Kalubowila hospital road.

The 88-year-old victim has succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Kalubowila hospital.

Police say that the driver of the three wheeler has absconded following the accident and Dehiwala police are conducting investigations to apprehend the suspect. (NewsWire)
