Grama Niladhari officer of the Suwa Pubudugama Grama Seva division, Homagama has been arrested for allegedly threatening to death a woman over the phone and demanding Rs. 2 million money.
Following a complaint, Police had launched an operation to arrests the suspect who had anonymously threatened a preschool teacher in the south Pitipana area, Homagama and attempted to extort money.
Investigating police teams have managed to get the suspect arrested after tricking him to come and collect the ransom money. Following the arrest, it has been revealed that it is the 51-year-old Grama Niladhari officer.
Police are conducting further investigations to ascertain if the same suspect is involved in similar phone threats and attempted extortions in the area (NewsWire)
