The South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) organized an open-day event to mark its 27th anniversary and the commemoration of Founder Day.
The event, held on October 24-25, 2023, proved to be a resounding success, attracting nearly 150,000 visitors from all corners of the country.
SEUSL was established in 1995 against the backdrop of the civil war that ravaged the North and East of Sri Lanka, thanks to the bold initiative of the late Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leader, MHM. Ashraff.
The SEUSL open day event has made history as it recorded the largest number of attendees at a university open day in Sri Lanka. The open day featured a wide range of activities and events, organized by the six faculties, library, physical education division, and landscape and maintenance division of the University. It included exhibitions of new inventions and innovations, a business fair, a book fair, sports activities, academic discussions, and cultural programs presented by the students, among others. School students from the region flocked to the event and actively participated. All school students were warmly welcomed and given opportunities to engage in artistic events.
Each of the faculties made substantial contributions to nurture the innovative thinking of students and showcased the university’s activities that aim to benefit society, earning the appreciation of the visitors. The University’s picturesque landscape and majestic architectural designs left a lasting impression on the visitors. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the university campus, learn about its academic programs, and witness demonstrations of its research initiatives. The open day also featured cultural performances, food stalls, and games for children.
In summary, SEUSL’s open day was a resounding success. It not only raised awareness about the university and its contributions to the community but also facilitated a deeper connection between the university and the local population. The visitors expressed newfound enthusiasm and motivation among both parents and children to explore and learn about the university.
Since assuming the role of Vice Chancellor at SEUSL, Professor A. Rameez has spearheaded several initiatives to bridge the gap between the university and the public while also fostering a positive impression among the people. As a result, the university remains committed to serving the community and making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
