Sun –
The sun will be directly over two areas in the Northern Province and one area of the North-Central Province today (Aug. 31), according to the Department of Meteorology.
At around 12.11 pm, the sun will be above Adappankulam in the Vavuniya District, Dutuwewa in the Anuradhapura District, and Nilaveli in the Trincomalee District.
The department added that as per the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka until September 07 this year.
Rain –
There is a possibility for an increase in the prevailing showery condition in the southwestern part of Sri Lanka from 01- 03 September.
Thereby, showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today.
Fairly heavy showers of about 75mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu districts during the evening or night.
Sea areas –
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle today.
According to the Met Department, winds will be Westerly or South-westerly and speed will be 30-40 kmph.
Wind speed may increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar will be rough at times.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo, Galle and Matara may be fairly rough at times.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
