Five drown in the last 48 hours – Police

Five deaths due to drowning have been reported from various parts of Sri Lanka within the last 48 hours ending at 08.00 am today.

A 21-year-old woman was reported missing after drowning while bathing in the Attanagalle Oya in Nittambuwa on Saturday evening.

The Police stated that the woman had drowned while bathing with a group of relatives while visiting a relative’s house in Nittambuwa.

A search operation has been launched to find the missing woman. 

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old resident of Negombo died while bathing in the Deduru Oya in Chillaw last evening.

The man was reported missing after drowning while bathing with a group with which he had engaged in a leisure trip.

The body of the man was found following a search operation conducted by the Police and Navy.

Two individuals also drowned while bathing in the Eththalaya Sea in Aalankuda, Norochcholai last evening. 

The two men aged 21 and 66 years were part of a group, including relatives on a leisure trip to the area. The bodies of the two individuals have been placed at the Puttalam Hospital. 

Furthermore, a 29-year-old youth died after drowning while bathing in the Pasikuda Sea in Kalkuda, Batticaloa yesterday.

The Police stated that the youth who was part of a group on a leisure trip had been swimming beyond the safety marks placed on the sea in the area.

The body of the deceased has been placed at the Valachchenai Hospital. (NewsWire)
