The Delhi High Court on Thursday directed YouTube to remove any fake news about Aaradhya Bachchan, granddaughter of Bollywood Star Amitabh Bachchan, from its platform. The court also said such fake news should not be shared in the future either.
The 11-year-old daughter of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan moved the high court on Wednesday against a YouTube tabloid for reporting ‘fake news’ about her health.
The high court pulled up the video-sharing platform for spreading fake news and asked whether it does not have any policies to ensure that such misleading content is not posted. The Delhi HC told YouTube that it is not enough to just say that users have been given a platform and that it is not responsible for what is being put on there.
The court summoned Google and all the YouTube platforms which were made parties in the petition and asked whether they had changed their policy according to the amendment in the IT rules. Expressing objection to the YouTube video, the court said that every child has the right to live with respect and dignity and it is the platform’s responsibility to stop such fake news. (India Today)
