AG tells IGP to produce Hizbullah in court under several charges

Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickremaratne has been instructed to report facts on the case filed against Attorney-at-Law Hejaaz Hizbullah.

Attorney General Dappula de Livera today directed the IGP to also produce Hizbullah before the relevant Magistrate’s Court.

Hizbullah will be produced before Court on charges filed under Section 2(1) (h) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and Section 3(1) of the International Covenant On Civil And Political Rights (ICCPR) Act.

Prominent human rights lawyer Hejaaz Hizbullah has been detained since 14 April 2020, on charges of aiding and abetting a suicide bomber involved in the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The Criminal Investigations Department in January informed the Fort Magistrate’s Court that Hizbullah will be detained for a further 90 days and the Defence Ministry’s approval has been obtained in this regard. (NewsWire)
