Air traffic controllers support ongoing TU strike action

Air traffic controllers of Sri Lankan airports have extended their support to the ongoing islandwide trade union action, announcing a work-to-rule campaign from 12.00 pm to 02.00 pm today (15).

Chairman of the air traffic controllers union Thisara Amarananda stated that this may result in delays of incoming and outgoing flights.

However, aircraft that traverse Sri Lankan airspace at high altitudes, aircraft that have declared an emergency status, medical aircraft that are carrying patients and medical support, and aircraft engaged in Search and Rescue missions will not be affected by the strike action, he said.

Thisara Amarananda further said they have joined the strike action against the government’s failure to respond to several of their issues, including new tax policies and attempts to privatise the firm with international involvement. (NewsWire)
