Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa says all attempts to sabotage the Lanka Premier League (LPL) cricket tournament will be defeated, Mawbima reported.
The Minister said that a group of MPs from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) were attempting to sabotage the event scheduled to kick off from this Thursday (26) in Hambantota.
The Lanka Premier League cricket tournament will be held according to the health guidelines issued by health authorities in view of the on-going coronavirus outbreak in the country.
Pointing out that many countries have learned to move forward with other national affairs parallel with the coronavirus pandemic under strict health guidelines, the Sports Minister said many countries have even commenced hosting sporting events.
Minister Namal Rajapaksa said that he is involved in formulating measures to develop various sports in the country while measures are underway to contain the coronavirus outbreak in Sri Lanka.
The Lanka Premier League is one such step, and all parties must provide their support to stage such an event for the benefit of the country, he added. (NewsWire)
