All island Curfew imposed

An all-island curfew has been imposed in view of the unrest between peaceful anti-government protesters and supporters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

The Police said the all-island curfew has been imposed with immediate effect and will remain until further notice.

23 people have been injured after SLPP supporters attacked anti-government protesters outside the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.

Following a meeting with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees this morning, SLPP supporters attacked anti-government protesters and destroyed both the “‘Maina Go Gama’ protest site in front of the Temple Trees and the ‘Gota Go Gama’ protest site at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.

Following the unrest and clashes between anti-government and SLPP supporters, a Police curfew was initially imposed on the Colombo South, North, and Central Police areas.

Thereafter, it was extended to the Western Province, following which an all-island curfew has been imposed as of now. (NewsWire)
