A suspect has been released on a surety of Rs. 200,000 for stealing coconuts from the official residence attached to the Galle railway station.
According to the Lankadeepa, the suspect is reported to have stolen 21 coconuts from a tree found within the premises of the house on Tuesday (19).
He was released on bail after being produced before Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela yesterday (20).
The suspect has been identified as a resident of Kandewatte in Galle.
The man was apprehended by three Railway Security Officers while he was found cleaning the coconuts near the 172 km post area.
The officials had later handed over the man along with the coconuts to the Galle Police.
The suspect has been instructed to appear before Court once again on 04 May, 2021. (NewsWire)
