Anti-government protesters who were part of the protest site that was set up in front of the Temple Trees under the name “Maina Go Gama” have been assaulted by supporters of the government.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) supporters who had attended a meeting with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today had confronted the anti-government protesters.
The confrontation resulted in the anti-government protesters being assaulted by the SLPP supporters and several of their protest-related materials being removed and set fire to by the SLPP supporters.
A journalist on the ground was also harassed by several SLPP supporters and was eventually assaulted by an SLPP supporter as well.
The protesters have also broken the Police barricades and are attempting to enter the ‘Occupy Galle Face’ protest site at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.(NewsWire)
