Cardinal extends his thanks for continuing investigations on Easter Attacks
In a media briefing held earlier today (16th), Archbishop of Colombo his Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith praised and thanked the government for successfully conducting and continuing the investigations on Easter attacks.
“It is important that the persons who were involved in the conspiracy of these attacks are questioned and given due punishment disregarding their social status or posts they hold, as they had conspired to disturb the peace between communities in this country. We will be able to put a stop to these things from happening in the future. That is also a duty imposed upon us in the name of the victims”, he said.
Speaking further, the Archbishop of Colombo also requested the Criminal Investigations Department to continue the investigations into this matter and reveal the truths to the people about those who are involved in this matter.
In the meantime, he also revealed that they have decided to not hold any remembrance events. However, since it is an incident which harmed not only the Christian community, but everyone at large, he requested people to participate from their homes in remembering the victims exactly at 8.45 am on the 21st of April, Tuesday, which marks the completion of one year since the first bomb went off during the Easter Attacks.
In light of the remembrance, the Cardinal requested Buddhist and other religious institutions to take part in the remembrance by ringing the bell alongside the Christian churches.
