‘Aragalaya’ activists acquitted from a court case

A group of individuals who are on bail after being arrested in connection to a protest near the Parliament entrance in 2022 have been acquitted from the case, it was reported.

The Police arrested 13 persons for their involvement in the protest near the Parliament entrance on May 04, 2022, while a case was filed under 13 charges against the individuals.

As the Police had failed to provide evidence to prove the charges, the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court yesterday acquitted the 13 individuals from the case.

The individuals had engaged in the protest as part of the ‘Aragalaya’ peoples’ movement, calling for the resignation of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. (NewsWire)
