Aragalaya: What next ? Kumar Sangakkara speaks (Video)

The involvement of the youth leaders of Sri Lanka who were seen at the forefront of the ‘Aragalaya’ people’s movement can play a key role in creating the necessary impact for social change required for future Sri Lanka, former Sri Lanka cricketer Kumar Sangakkara said.

“People say politics is dirty do not get involved. But without the involvement of the youth leaders we saw at the Aragalaya, we cannot change or influence the country to betterment,” he said.

He revealed that the window of opportunity is now and the involvement for impactful change must be carried out over the next 6-10 years.

Pointing out that it is not an overnight change, Sangakkara said, however, it is a fight worth committing to and something that can only be done by the youth leaders and young activists.

The former cricketer also warned that the youth leaders must act fast, adding “the doors are closing fast. I hope all the young leaders don’t allow the door to be closed in our faces. Because when it does, the grind back to get the little opening for the youth to influence the country is going to be much harder.”

Former Sri Lanka cricketer Kumar Sangakkara made the remarks while answering questions raised during his address at the Oxford Union in England in February 2023. (NewsWire)
