The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has raised questions on the possible link between the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks investigations and the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
He told reporters that it is questionable if the probe into the attacks was connected to securing the support of Muslim MPs to pass the 20th Amendment in Parliament.
Cardinal Ranjith pointed out that the Leader of one Muslim party had voted against the Amendment, while a few of his party members had voted in favour.
He further questioned the timely release of MP Rishad Bathiudeen’s brother, Riyaj Bathiudeen, who was detained for months due to his links to the Easter Sunday attacks.
The Archbishop of Colombo said these events could be part of a deal.
He also criticized former President Maithripala Sirisena, who he said has been mentioned much in the report by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing the attacks.
The Archbishop said Sirisena has reportedly told certain persons who sought his advice on arresting Zahran Hashim that one must not play with snakes. (NewsWire)
