Former MP Hirunika Premachandra along with Adharshani Karadana who claimed to be Prof Marasinghe’s ex-lover held a media briefing on 23rd December and accused Prof. Marasinghe of sexually abusing the woman’s pet dog.
Following the press conference, Prof. Marasinghe resigned from his portfolio as the Presidential Advisor on Parliamentary Affairs.
He has sent a LOD seeking Rs. 1.5 billion from former MP Hirunika Premachandra and Adharshani Karadana accusing them of defamation via their allegations.
In his LOD presented via his lawyers, Prof. Marasinghe has denied the accusations, claiming they were false.
Prof. Marasinghe’s lawyer states that the press briefing and evidence presented by Premachandra and Karadana were doctored in an attempt to disrepute his client.
The lawyer pointed out this move had created a wrong impression of Prof. Marasinghe among the citizens and had damaged his reputation.
