The Health Ministry has clarified that it had not approved the vaccination drive conducted at the Abhayaramaya Temple in Narahenpita.
The Temple had conducted a vaccination programme to administer the Covishield AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday.
A large number of people are reported to have gathered to receive the vaccine, but were turned away, as only a selected group, including Buddhist monks, were provided the vaccine.
Health Minister Pavithra Waniarachchi said as a tense situation arose and had resulted in posing a threat for the spread of the coronavirus, the Ministry had to step in to control the situation.
She said the Ministry had thereafter dispatched vaccine doses to inoculate the gathered public.
The Health Minister said the remaining stock of the AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine has been reserved for Kidney and cancer patients. (NewsWire)
Well well well. Second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine given at @PresRajapaksa temple in Narahenpita today based on a list at the temple. Who prepared this list? On what basis were people selected? So much for transparency #Srilanka #Lka #Covishield #vaccine pic.twitter.com/pqecbeXtP9
