Eight people have died in seven motor accidents that were reported from various parts of the country within the 24-hour period ending at 06 am today.
A 40-year-old resident of Meewanapalana has died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing onto a concrete post in Moragahahena this morning. The man who had sustained serious injuries in the accident had died after being admitted to the Horana Hospital.
Two men travelling on a motorcycling have died after a van that had attempted to overtake a vehicle had crashed onto the motorcycle plying in the opposite direction on the Padeniya- Anuradhapura Road in Galgamuwa yesterday. The motorcyclist and pillion rider had sustained serious injuries in the accident and had died upon admission to the Galgamuwa Hospital. The driver of the van has been arrested for reckless driving.
A 36-year-old from Akaragama has died after a bowzer had crashed onto his motorcycle in the Minuwangoda area in Divulapitiya yesterday. The victim had died after being admitted to the Divulapitiya Hospital. Investigations have revealed that the accident had taken place due to the negligence and reckless driving of the driver of the bowser. The suspect had been arrested, while the Divulapitiya Police is conducting further investigations.
A 30-year-old woman from the Singhapura area has died after a riding lesson had turned fatal. The woman is said to have attempted to teach another woman to ride a motorcycle, when the rider was unable to control the motorcycle, resulting in the vehicle falling over with the two women. Both women who had sustained injuries had been admitted to the Pulmodai Hospital after which the rider had succumbed to her injuries.
A 42-year-old resident of Avissawella has died after the car in which he was travelling had collided head-on with a lorry in the Madhola area on the Avissawella- Ratnapura Road yesterday. The accident had occurred due to the driver of the car being unable to control the vehicle. The victim had died after being admitted to the Avissawella Hospital.
A 65-year-old man from Sooriyawewa has died after a motorcycle had crashed into him in Sevanagala last night. The motorcyclist had lost control of the vehicle and had crashed into the victim who was walking on the side of the road. The victim had died after being admitted to the Sooriyawewa Hospital. The motorcyclist has been arrested in connection to the accident.
And, a 23-year-old motorcyclist from Kudawewa has died following a head-on collision with a van in the Murawala area on the Puttalam – Colombo Road yesterday. The motorcyclist who had sustained serious injuries in the accident had died after being admitted to the Chillaw Hospital. The driver of the van has been arrested for the accident. (NewsWire)
