Police spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa has provided an update on the investigations into the death of the 9-year-old child in Atalugama, Bandarawela.
Issuing a statement, the police spokesman said that police teams are conducting investigations into the death under the suspicion of murder.
He said that the body of the deceased girl is currently placed at the mortuary of Panadura hospital and awaiting Covid-19 test results to conduct the post mortem.
“The IGP has instructed the investigations to be carried out by the Homicide & Organized Crimes division operating under the DIG in charge of the CID” he said.
The police spokesperson further said that no suspects or any clear indication regarding the incident has been identified yet and that police are conducting further investigations.
The 9-year-old girl’s body was recovered from a marshy land near her residence yesterday (28), after being reported missing since Friday (27) morning. (NewsWire)
