The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has warned that there are alleged attempts to sell the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for Rs. 5000.
GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr. Naveen de Zoysa told the media that reports have emerged of attempts to sell the vaccine for the second dose.
This has led to people queueing up at various locations, as there is a shortage of the vaccine in Sri Lanka, he said.
Dr. Naveen de Zoysa further said this malicious attempts by certain individuals will propagate a negative image on the Government’s ongoing vaccination drive.
He warned that the distribution of vaccines in such a manner, especially via online advertisements, will result in the person receiving the vaccine not acquiring the expected immunity boost.
The GMOA Assistant Secretary explained that the vaccine is being rolled out based on scientific methodology and it was essential to follow the procedure for its complete impact.
Dr. Naveen de Zoysa further called on the Director General of Health Services to take action to halt this vaccine racket.
He also urged the Health Minister and the Director General of Health Services to investigate as to how the vaccine doses, which are in the custody of the Government, had reached the hands of the suspects involved in the vaccine racket. (NewsWire)
