Assistant Director to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Pradeep Kodipilli told NewsWire that search operations are underway to find another person who was also reported missing after the earth slip.
He further said that the mother of the deceased teenager has been hospitalised.
Kodipilli added that a landslide warning has been issued to the Ratnapura, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Kalutara Districts today as well due to the heavy rains experienced in the area.
People have been requested to remain vigilant and to evacuate immediately if there are any signs of a landslide.
He further said officials from the DMC and the tri-forces are on standby to address any disaster situation faced due to the inclement weather conditions experienced in Sri Lanka.
