Bindu Botalegama, who is alleged to have duplicated the performances of veteran film actor Bandu Samarasinghe, has been acquitted from the case filed by the latter on the infringement of his economic rights guaranteed under the Intellectual Property Act.
Filing the case, Samarasinghe alleged that Bindu Botalegama, famously known as Duplicate Bandu, had unauthorisedly duplicated his performances including his way of behaviour and his voice in a movie.
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) filed a charge sheet against Bindu Botalegama based on the complaint filed by actor Bandu Samarasinghe.
However, the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (Jan 04) acquitted Bindu Botalegama from the said case.
Announcing the verdict, the magistrate said that five accused, including Bindu Botalegama, have been acquitted on the grounds that there was not enough evidence to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
The verdict was issued after a trial lasting eight years. (NewsWire)
