The Registrar General’s Department initiated a programme to issue birth, death and marriage certificates through online service.
Addressing the event held at the Defence Ministry, its Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) pointed out that the online service would prevent irregularities while issuing of birth, death and marriage certificates and would allow copies of the relevant certificates are obtained expeditiously.
Meanwhile, the Department’s Registrar General Madduma Bandara Weerasekara said the significance of having accurate and valid certificates, said the Department was able to scan birth, marriage and death certificates registered after the year 1960 and saved them in a centralized system to facilitate citizens to obtain their respective certificates using a simple procedure.
He said the people will soon be able to obtain copies of their deeds and title reports through the online system, and this system conforms to the President’s “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” policy statement in realising the Citizen-Centric Digital Government.
“The introduction of the online system with effect from August 2, 2021 is a giant leap forward by the Department, which is governed by the State Ministry of National Security and Disaster Management,” he said.
