A 13-year-old boy from Galenbindunuwewa whose plight was highlighted in social media has now improved his eyesight after receiving top medical treatment with the help of former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
Jeewantha Rathnayake’s plea during the Sirasa Gammadda Pradeshiya Mandapaya program to restore his sight went viral on social media.
The video had been brought to the attention of former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa through her son Rohitha Rajapaksa and sports personality Dilantha Malagamuwa.
Shiranthi Rajapaksa had thereafter made arrangements for the young boy to visit Colombo and obtain an appointment with a leading Ophthalmologist in Sri Lanka.
After being subjected to many tests, the specialist Ophthalmologist had ruled that Jeewantha’s vision can be restored without a transplant and commenced treatment for the boy.
Jeewantha yesterday visited Shiranthi Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees and had briefed her on the considerable improvement in vision. (NewsWire)
