British Mother wants justice for son’s death in Sri Lanka

A british woman has called on the Attorney General of Sri Lanka to expedite the case pertaining to the death of her son which is being heard at a Magistrate’s Court, the Daily Mirror reported.

Maryanne India Beare had put forward the written request to Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera last week.

Beare’s son, 37-years-old Charles Jeevan Beare was reportedly found dead in a park in Colombo in 2018.

The man had arrived in Sri Lanka in November 2017 to receive treatment for his drug addiction at Seasons Lanka, the Sri Lankan branch of an Australian resort-type drug rehabilitation centre located in Kalutara.

However, following Charles’ death, the centre had shut down, repatriating its other patients back to their countries, while the staff had allegedly fled Sri Lanka.

Following this, an investigation was launched into the death of Charles Jeevan Beare, which is being treated as murder.

The Tourism Police too has filed a separate case against Seasons Lanka and its Sri Lankan partner, Certis Lanka on charges of misleading the public by advertising the centre as a licensed drug rehabilitation centre and encouraging foreign nationals to enroll.

Certis Lanka Executive Director Jeevaka Wijesinghe said Certis Lanka had only leased out the property to Hader Group to launch the rehabilitation facility but was in no way involved in the management. (Newswire)
