CCTV : Two youths killed in accident in Thalawathugoda, Overall 12 deaths in last 24 hrs

Nearly 12 deaths have been reported due to motor accidents in Sri Lanka in the 24-hour period ending at 06am today.

The Police said two persons among the victims are youths who had travelled on a motorcycle.

A car plying from Thalawathugoda had collided with the motorcycle while turning into the Polkotuwa road near the Polwatte Junction in Pannipitiya today.

One person travelling on the motorcycle had died on the spot, while the other had died upon admission to the Colombo South Teaching hospital.

The deceased have been identified as a 26-year-old from Yatiyanthota and a 25-year-old from Meegoda.

The Police said there is a significant increase in road accidents over the last few weeks.

They said according to data accidents are expected to increase during the April festive season.

A four- day special operation has also been launched by the Police to curtail and prevent accidents involving motorcycles in the country. (NewsWire)
