Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) officials to rectify the mistakes in calculating the monthly electricity bills of some consumers, at the earliest.
Complaints from the public alleged that some consumers had got electricity bills for the period of last 2 months with exorbitant amounts. When the Minister enquired the CEB about this, it was revealed that it was the mistake on the part of the CEB. The Minister had instructed the CEB officials to rectify the mistakes at the earliest and issue new bills to the aggrieved consumers.
It is noteworthy that, in a meeting held last month to discuss about payments of electricity bills, the Minister had instructed the CEB to issue Electricity bills with no extra charges affiliated for delays.
Ceylon Electricity Board had issued the following message to the customers last month.
Regarding issuing of electricity bills & payments
Dear Valued Customer,
Due to the prevailing situation, we have not been able to issue electricity bills to many of our customers.
We intend to read your meter and provide bills as soon as the situation improves. However, we ensure, that this delay will not penalize you in any way and will not increase your monthly bill amount.
A reasonable and adequate time will be provided to make your payments for the electricity consumed during this period.
However, we request your assistance in settling the bills delivered previously and/or sent electronically.
