CEB Restructuring : Progress review meeting held

Renewable Energy is the way forward to revive the Power Sector in Sri Lanka, Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said.

In a Twitter message, he said that a progress review meeting of the Power sector was held yesterday.

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has not initiated or commissioned any new Major Power Plants since 2014, he revealed.

Emphasizing that Renewable Energy was the way forward to revive the Power Sector, the Minister pointed out that, however, the attitude towards facilitating such projects is appalling.

“The CEB needs restructuring & I hope to get the approval of the Cabinet to commence the unbundling of CEB with Generation, Transmission & Supply to be separated,” he said.

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera added that while tariff adjustments are also needed, it has to be with a plan to reduce Generation costs with more Renewable Energy. (NewsWire)
