A Chinese woman has been apprehended for attempting to flee Sri Lanka after leaving her young child with her Sri Lankan nanny, it was reported.
According to Mawbima, the 35-year-old Chinese woman was arrested at the Katunayake Airport on Tuesday (Mar 12).
The Sri Lankan nanny has been identified as a 51-year-old resident of Polgahawela in Kurunegala.
Investigations have revealed that the Sri Lankan nanny had been employed at the Chinese woman’s residence in Dubai and had returned to Sri Lanka recently following the completion of her employment.
During her employment in Dubai, the nanny is reported to have bonded with the younger child of the Chinese woman, with the child being unable to be handled following the departure of the nanny.
The Chinese woman, who also has two other daughters, is reported to have contacted the Sri Lankan nanny informing her of visiting Sri Lanka on a holiday, and for the latter to meet her at the airport.
Upon arrival at the airport with her mother and her youngest child, aged 3 years, the Chinese woman is said to have shared pleasantries with the Sri Lankan nanny but had disappeared at the airport after some time.
The Sri Lankan nanny had then informed the airport Police after which the Chinese woman and her mom were arrested when they had arrived at the Katunayake airport in an attempt to return to Dubai.
The Chinese National and her mother have been produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court over the incident. (NewsWire)
