Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has commented on the protest staged by graduating students of the Colombo University against the University’s newly appointed Chancellor Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero.
Several students refused to acknowledge Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero and accept graduation certificates from him during the university’s Graduation Ceremony that was held over the weekend.
Commenting on the incident, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said the students had expressed their displeasure in a correct and clever manner.
This is a display of their fight for the rights of the people in the country as well as themselves and to safeguard democracy, she pointed out. (NewsWire)
