Court dismisses application by British tourist on deportation order

The Court of Appeal today dismissed the writ application that was filed by British tourist Kayleigh Fraser challenging the deportation order for participating in anti-government protests in Sri Lanka.

On Friday (12), Fraser filed a writ application with the Court of Appeal against a decision taken to deport her from Sri Lanka.

The Controller General of the Department of Immigration and Emigration and the Attorney General were named as respondents in the application.

In her petition, Fraser states that the Department of Immigration and Emigration had taken an arbitrary decision to terminate her VISA as she had been involved in the Galle Face anti-government protests.

The Department of Immigration and Emigration revealed that it had decided to terminate the visa issued to Fraser as she had posted protest-related content on Social Media.

In a letter, the Department of Immigration and Emigration had informed her to leave Sri Lanka before the 15th of August.

However, through her petition, Kayleigh Fraser sought for the Court of Appeal to rule that the decision by the Department of Immigration and Emigration is unjust. (NewsWire)
