COVID-19 Indian variant found in qurantine center, six variants currently identified in SL

An individual with the new coronavirus variant of concern spreading in India identified for the first time at a quarantine centre in Colombo.

Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine of Sri Jayewardenepura University Dr. Chandima Jeewandara said that the variant was detected after a test conducted on a sample sent by a private hospital in Colombo.

According to Dr. Chandima Jeewandara six Covid variants including the Indian and South African variants have been identified so far from the samples sequenced from Covid-19 patients all over the country.
