Former Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara passed away at age 81 this evening while being treated for Covid-19 at IDH Colombo.
Former Speaker of Parliamen tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month when he was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.
Later he was transferred to IDH Colombo for further treatment.
W. J. M. Lokubandara was the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka from 2004 to 2010 and Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province from 2010 to 2015. He is a lawyer by profession, and is also an author of several books and a songwriter. Lokubandara held several ministries in the government of Sri Lanka before his appointment as the Speaker of the House. (NewsWire)
