Restrictions will be considered for the upcoming festive season if the public does not act in a responsible manner, Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena has warned.
He pointed out that it has been observed that several people travelling on leisure trips over the weekends are not adhering to the health guidelines.
Thereby, five districts have seen an increase in Covid patients and the authorities have detected Covid clusters.
The Covid patients have been detected from the Anuradhapura, Ampara, Hambantota, Matara, and Galle districts.
The transmission rate of the virus has increased due to people gathering for public events, weddings, and religious observances, Dr. Gunawardena said.
The Director-General of Health Services called on the public to avoid unnecessary travel, including leisure trips during the weekends.
“We cannot prevent covid clusters being formed due to such events. That is why we are urging the public to avoid gatherings as much as possible,” Dr. Asela Gunawardena said.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry yesterday reported that 737 people had been detected with Covid.
The Ministry pointed out that this is the fifth consecutive day to report over 700 patients. (NewsWire)
