Covid infected Police Sergeant’s body found in hospital water tank after 56 days

A Police Sergeant attached to the Kotmale Police station who was reported missing since 08th September has been found dead, with his body being recovered from the main water tank of the Gampola hospital, Aruna Newspaper reported.

It is suspected that the body had been inside the water tank for nearly 56 days since he was reported missing.

The Police Seargeant had been admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 by his son on 8th September and was later reported missing on the same day, with the Police launching an investigation.

His body had been found on the 29th of October after the hospital management had inquired into a foul smell emanating from the water tank.

It has been reported that the water from the tank had been consumed by thousands of patients and the hospital staff as well.

The Gampola Hospital Protection Organization has made a written request from the Director-General of Health Services to conduct a formal investigation into the inefficient and irresponsible conduct of the hospital administration which allowed the body of an infected person to be found inside a water tank.
