Covid patient leaves for Dubai submitting ‘false PCR report’

A Covid patient is reported to have left the country after submitting a false medical report, the Lankadeepa reported.

The patient from Enderamulla in the Mahara Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Division had left the country on 29 December, 2020.

Mahara MOH Dr. Nihal Gamage said the Covid patient had received two contradicting PCR test results after undergoing testing at private hospitals.

As the results were contradictory, health authorities had instructed him to undergo a fresh PCR test on 24 December in order to obtain a clearance report to leave the country.

Dr. Gamage said the fresh PCR test result received on the following day (30) had confirmed that the individual had contracted the virus.

However, when health authorities had attempted to reach out to him at his residence, they were informed that the patient had left the country from the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake on 29 December.

According to Gampaha District Director of Health Services Dr. Migara Epa, it is suspected that the patient had submitted the false report obtained from a private hospital as the clearance report.

He added that relevant authorities have been instructed to conduct investigations to ascertain as to how the patient had left the country without the recommendation of the area MOH. (NewsWire)
