COVID19 Taskforce headed by Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa met Telecommunications Companies yesterday.
According to the Task Force, Heads of Dialog, SLT, Mobitel, Hutch & Airtel participated in the meeting along with TRC representatives.
Several issues faced by the Telecom industry was discussed in the meeting.
Telecom companies have assured in the meeting that telephone lines will not be disconnected for non payment until April 30th.
During the meeting high usage of Data has been also discussed.
“Overall concern of Sri Lanka’s telecom sector is to manage the network capacity and increased traffic to ensure that the network doesn’t collapse, which will affect everyone” Senior official from Prime Minister’s office Anuradha Herath tweeted after the meeting.
Meanwhile one of the Directors of Sri Lanka Mobitel Dr. Amila Kankanamge had pointed out in a reply to Iraj Weeraratne on Twitter last week that Data usage has increased thrice the usual amount.
