There is a possibility for the country to be reopened soon based on the current developments pertaining to the coronavirus, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said.
The Army Commander said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had earlier instructed the National Covid Task Force to provide restrictions that need to be imposed in the event the country is reopened next week.
The directive was given during the meeting with the Covid Task Force that was held on Friday (10), while the proposed restrictions will most probably be received over the next 2 days, he said.
General Shavendra Silva further said there is a possibility for the country to be reopened after taking into consideration the quarantine curfew, infection rate and deaths.
He said the restrictions under which the country can be reopened without increasing the infection rate will also be taken into consideration.
The Army Commander added that the decision on whether the country will be reopened under the proposed restrictions or not will be announced on Friday (17).
An islandwide quarantine curfew was imposed on 20th August due to the rapid spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.
The curfew was twice extended and is currently in effect until the 21st of September after health experts called for it to be imposed for at least 04- weeks. (NewsWire)
