Current Restrictions has become a “joke” : Situation Update by Saturday

The islandwide travel restriction imposed in Sri Lanka due to the coronavirus situation has become a joke, the Public Health Inspectors Association said.

President of the Association Upul Rohana told reporters that the travel restriction currently enforced is ineffective, and will not help curtail the spread of the virus.

He further said if the travel ban is to be lifted on the 21st of June as announced, then it must be done under strict restrictions.

Upul Rohana added that, however, a slight decrease in Covid cases has been observed during the travel restriction.

Meanwhile, Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardena said random PCR and Rapid Antigen Tests will be conducted in all districts during this week.

He said this will allow the authorities to ascertain how far the virus has spread within the community by this Saturday.

Stating that the number of PCR tests has not been reduced, Dr. Gunawardena said the number of Rapid Antigen Tests conducted per day has been increased at present. (NewsWire)
