Cyclonic Storm “MICHAUNG” : Latest update

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 06 DECEMBER 2023

The Severe Cyclonic Storm “MICHAUNG” over the West-Central Bay of Bengal has crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast of India and is gradually weakening.

The Met Department said, accordingly, afternoon showers are expected in certain parts of Sri Lanka today.

Showers will occur in the Western, Southern and North-western provinces, particularly in the morning. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Eastern and Uva provinces after 02.00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the impact of the severe cyclonic storm “MIGJAUM” on the weather in the sea areas around the island is further reduced due to it moving away from Sri Lanka.

Thereby, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Mannar, Colombo and Galle today. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island, particularly during the evening or night.

Winds will be South-westerly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed may increase up to 40-45 kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai and from Hambanthota to Pottuvil.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai and from Hambanthota to Pottuvil may be fairly rough at times. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
