Danushka Gunathilaka arrest – Statement from new law firm representing the cricketer

Sri Lanka cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka who was arrested and charged with 4 counts of sexual assault in Australia, maintains his innocence of all charges, the cricketer’s lawyers said in a statement today.

SANS Law, a Sydney-based law firm has been retained by Danushka Gunathilaka to act on his behalf in relation to the allegations.

The statement further revealed that the matter is currently proceeding before the Local Court of New South Wales. 

“Danushka Gunathilaka maintains his innocence of all charges. Given the early stages of proceedings, we do not wish to make any further comment and will allow for the matter to be properly ventilated before the Court,” the statement added.

Sri Lanka cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka was arrested on Sunday (06) and charged with 4 counts of sexual assault in Sydney, Australia.

Following his arrest, Sydney Magistrate Robert Williams denied Gunathilaka bail and adjourned the case to January 12, a period of nine-and-a-half weeks.

The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket has also suspended Danushka Gunathilaka from all forms of cricket following his arrest in Australia. (NewsWire)
