State Minister Channa Jayasumana has likened the Delta variant of the coronavirus to a bomb.
He said the variant blew up in New York in USA, London in England, Indonesia, and now has also blown up in Sri Lanka.
“The next 2-3 weeks is very crucial and we have to face the situation, the State Minister emphasized.
He further said the spread of the variant can be defeated if the public is made aware of the truth and they take necessary precautions.
The issues with regard to an influx of Covid patients at treatment centres has been resolved jointly by the Health Ministry and the management of the hospitals, State Minister Channa Jayasumana said.
He said a special Covid Unit has currently been established within hospitals to treat Covid patients.
Units that were allocated for specialists have been converted for the treatment of Covid patients.
Specialists doctors and nurses who were deployed to the Unit have been reassigned on Covid duties and this is how the health sector has been able to handle the crisis, he added. (NewsWire)
