The proposal to express displeasure against the President will be taken up for debate in Parliament with special approval from the House.
The party leaders today agreed to take up for debate the proposal when the Parliament convenes on Tuesday, the 17th of May 2022.
The opposition, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has submitted the proposal to express their displeasure against the President to the Speaker of the House under a standing order.
The Committee on Parliamentary Affairs convened today under the aegis of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
Tense situations had been reported during the meeting due to the exchange of words, after which it was decided to elect a Deputy Speaker as the first programme of the Parliament session.
It is reported that former leader of the House MP Dinesh Gunawardena and Chief Government Whip MP Prasanna Ranatunga had not attended the meeting. (NewsWire)
