Public Health Inspectors have seized 3150 kilos of Dhal that were deemed unfit for human consumption.
The Public Health Inspector (PHI) in charge of Weligama M.M.H. Nihal said the stock of Dhal was seized from the Weligama Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society Limited.
He said the stock of Dhal had been found to be expired and containing cancer-causing toxins.
The PHI officer said the results of a test conducted on the samples of the Dhal had revealed that it contained Aflatoxins, which are a family of toxins produced by certain fungi that are found on agricultural crops.
He said the stock of Dhal was seized following an investigation launched into a complaint filed by a consumer. (NewsWire)
