Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara today responded to two allegations levelled by Parliamentarians Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara in Parliament on Tuesday (09).
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harin Fernando had claimed that the wife of the Easter attacks ring leader Zaharan Hashim had testified that Intelligence officers had met with Zaharan at his residence.
His second revelation was that two lorries were seized at the Gelanigama entrance on 4th of April 2019, which were released on the orders of a Senior Police officer.
SJB MP Manusha Nanayakkara added that the lorries mentioned by MP Fernando had contained weapons and explosives, and a Police officer took a bribe to release the two lorries.
Responding to the two SJB MPs, Minister Sarath Weerasekara denied both allegations while addressing Parliament today.
Minister Weerasekara said in all investigations Zaharan’s wife had not claimed that the bomber had met with intelligence officers at home, adding that it was a lie.
He further denied Harin’s other accusation that a lorry with explosives had been released on the instructions of a senior Police officer, stating that in the investigations it was only revealed that the lorry had transported ornamental fish.
Minister Sarath Weerasekara thereafter, challenged MP Harin Fernando to say these allegations outside of Parliament, instead of using Parliament privileges to make such claims.
The Minister called on the two SJB MPs to visit the CID, peruse through the reports and evidence related to Zaharan’s wife pertaining to the easter attacks investigations and show where Zaharan’s wife had made such claims. (NewsWire)
