Diesel/Super Diesel & Petrol 92/95 fuel stock update

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara has provided and update on the current Fuel stocks in the country, which are being unloaded and expected to arrive.

Addressing the media at a special press briefing held today, he said that 2 ships of fuel are currently being unloaded and the 3rd ship can only be unloaded once the current stocks are unloaded, due to space restrictions.

He also assured the public that adequate fuel stocks are in procession as well as expected to arrive in the next 10 days, which will ease the fuel queues currently experienced in the country.

Providing an update on volume, the minister said that currently, a stock of 20,000 MT of Petrol 92 and 8,000 MT of Petrol 95 are being unloaded and these are stocks belonging to the Lanka IOC.

Apart from that, he said that another shipment of fuel for which payments have already been made and yet to be unloaded contains a stock of 26,300 MT of Petrol 92 and 9,000 MT of Petrol 95.

In addition, he said that a consignment of Diesel is being unloaded today, which has 39,273 MT of Auto Diesel.

He also went to say that more shipments of fuel expected to arrive has 37,270 MT of Petrol and 37,500 MT of Auto Diesel.

Replying to questions raised by journalists on the possibility to update the availability of fuel at fuel stations, the minister said that an application is being developed which is expected to be ready in 10 days’ time, which will enable consumers to get an update on the stock availability at fuel stations.
