Minister Arumugan Thondaman who passed away a short while ago reportedly due to a heart attack, had met Indian High Commissioner this afternoon.
According to the Indian HC, they had met to discuss bilateral cooperation for community development including the ongoing Indian Housing Project in the plantation sector and the landmark Jaffna Cultural Centre.
After hearing the shocking death of Minister Thondaman, Indian HC had posted the following Tweets;
“Deeply shocked to learn of the sudden and sad demise of Hon Minister Thondaman. Deepest condolences. Difficult to believe. Had met him today afternoon.
A respected leader of Sri Lanka and Indian origin Tamil community. Will be sorely missed. Praying for peace to his departed soul and strength to his family to bear this irreplaceable loss.” expressed Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay.
Minister Thondaman's body is currently at Thalangama Hospital. Number of key political figures including Bandula Gunawardena, Mahinda Amaraweera, Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Ravi Karunanayake have rushed to the location.
